I got my braces off about 6 months ago and my teeth look pretty good, except one spot on my big tooth. it is more white than the rest or my teeth. THe spot is not where the brace was and has not gone away. someone told me it was a calcium deposit but will it ever leave?
Do Calcium Deposits on Teeth go away?
/ Most likely, it is not a calcium deposit (which can be easily scraped away during a routine teeth cleaning).
It sounds more like the area which was brushed more often became whiter than the area which was hidden by the braces.
Eventually, the color will conform completely. It will take time because you need to brush the tooth completely for awhile before this can occur.
Also, it isn't wise to brush hard. Teeth should be brushed often, but moderately light, not hard.
Within a few more months to a full year, you'll see a change in the color which will be uniform.
Reply:It is called decalcification. It is a lack of mineral in the tooth and is essentially the beginning of the cavity. What you need to do is ask your dentist/orthodontist for a prescription for fluoride gel (Prevident). This will re-calcify your tooth and (hopefully) get rid of the white spot. Good Luck.
Reply:It is probably demineralization of the enamel. The braces cause weakening of the enamel and it whitens slightly. Fluoride can help. OR, it could be just white from the rest of the tooth being stained while the braces were on. You might try whitening strips.
