My top teeth don't meet my bottom teeth when I close my jaw. There is a big gap. Can it be fixed?

Just my molars touch which makes bitting into certain things tricky. My jaw also hurts if I open it too much for a little while.

Have you heard of anyone else with this problem and does it have a name?

I know exactly what you are feeling..I only hit on my back 4 teeth. It's called an Open Bite. I have a hard time with sandwhiches with lettuce on them or thick meats like salami. Since I don't hit on any of my front teeth. They only thing to fix that problem would be a surgery to move the jaw. Not sure what one would be moved. I've never really looked into it. It's not a huge deal I'm 24 and I've had it since I got all my permant teeth in. I just deal with it. You Jaw hurting maybe be a TMJ problem. TMJ is tempromandibular Joint Problem. It's pretty common talk to your dentist and see if you have a problem and you can talk about what can be done. Good Luck
Reply:that's pretty normal. they shouldn't meet up perfectly, but if you're worried too much about it, talk to your dentist and see what they suggest.

there are things you can do it fix that, but they can be expensive.
Reply:Nowadays, they can give you any smile you want. I have seen some awesome dental makeovers!
Reply:Yes because I have that to it is easily fixed (oporation)better to have it about the age of 16-25. If your not sure ask your dentist.
Reply:If the Dentist is tooooo expensive, join a boxing club! it's quicker too. DING! DING!
Reply:Someone called it an open bite. I believe it is actually called an Over Bite. It's very common. Braces can fix it.
Reply:You can have braces put on your teeth and have the orthodontist pull your top and bottom teeth together. I'm in the process of having that down. Only my molars touch and the rest of my teeth don't. The orthodontist that I see said that my teeth over the years from chewing are bein pushed back up into the gums. I have braces on my top and bottom teeth and I use elastics that hook to the braces to pull them down. My best advise to you is talk to your dentist or contact an orthodontist in your area and see what plan they can come up with to correct your smile.
