I got my palate expander in today. I have to turn it once daily. How big will the gap between my teeth be?

I believe they said it will be in for 5 months. 2 of which i will turn it and 3 of which it will be like a cast. I don't get my braces on to fix the gap and the other problems with my teeth until the 5 months is up. How long will I have a gap and how wide will it be?!!!

The size of the gap varies for each person, but when mine was fitted it had to expand for a month. At the end, the gap was about 2 millimeters. So for two months, it'll be around 1-3 millimeters. When you get your braces, they'll put a elastic (or wire) powerchain to close the gap.
Reply:I had one for about that long and it's a really small gap... no more than the width of a dime which really isn't that big....at least that was for me... it's annoying though... and please my advice... don't eat romaine lettuce unless you really really cut up the crunchy bits... I had a trial and error... and got a piece stuck on top in my first week of having it and it was at a restaurant so I couldn't exactly fish it out with fingers....
