How big of a gap do you get between your teeth with an expander?

ive asked this 2 times already but got no responses so im gonna give it one more shot..ha..im 23 and got an expander a month ago.i turn it every other day so ive only turned it 11 times so far. my ortho didnt know if it would work because of my age and the bone had prob already healed in place..last week he told me itd be another month or two before he would be able to tell if it was working. well i went there wed and he said he can already tell its working because i have a small gap between my 2 front teeth. im very glad i wont need surgery but im worried that since i have only turned it 11 times and by the time im done, i will have turned it 60 times, im gonna have a HUGE gap between my teeth.im already self conscious about my teeth and i dont get my top braces on until the expander is out, which isnt until august. has anyone had a gap between their teeth this quick? how big did ur gap get? any answers would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I think it won't just be one giant gap, but pretty evenly spaced in your front teeth - your teeth will shift naturally
Reply:I am 29 and I am getting my expander removed at the end of the month. My teeth spaced apart pretty evenly with time, although at first, I had just one gap. The changes in my teeth were noticable within 3-4 weeks and I have a lot of space now between all of my top teeth, which was necessary because several of my teeth severely overlapped.

Don't worry. It will be okay and in the long run it will all be worth it.
Reply:An arch expander can be used to create a proper alignment of the arches so permanent teeth have room to erupt in a natural position.

In this particular instance, I think you should consult with your dentist about your expander and concerns. Don't feel pressured to wait until August. Call his/her office for an appointment.

Another issue is, these devices function differently on different cases/individuals. We can't see your mouth on Y!A, so it's little harder to tell how you are responding to the treatment.

Good luck
