Why do posh people have big teeth?

Hmm... Right so I think this question can be answered in a few parts... I think first of all, the "posh people-big teeth" thing comes from American stereotypes, as (not to generalise) Americans seem to think that a posh English accent is the only English accent (aside from cockney, which I believe they associate with the homeless). Americans have large amounts of orthondontistry - especially on their children - which they execute from a very young age (the orthondontisty, not the children). English people (reference: me) HATE going to the dentist, and also years of painful scratchy ordondontistry. So I think the English are generally (by the rest of the world) looked at as having 'bad' teeth, which of course includes having large teeth.





Another good point which I thought was quite relevent is that of veneers - as Hilary Duff recently demonstrated, these instantly turn ordinary, quite beautiful people, into horses.





My final point - from a study on the British and the origins of their large teeth:





Measurements of tooth dimensions, taken


from Anglo-Saxon and modern subjects,


were compared. Premolars, canines, and incisors


were larger in the Anglo-Saxons,


although molars were smaller. Such a change


in dimensions over 12 to 14 centuries may


be explained genetically by interbreeding or


may be evolutionary, resulting from external


influences.

Reply:Posh people tend to have a history of good breeding with attractive people (money attracts doesn't it), so there is likely to be a small genetic element.





It is a stereotype though, and isn't actually true in any real sense. There are plenty of posh people with bad teeth, and vice versa you know!





You might as well ask why all posh people are so tall.
