my hamster has really long goofy teeth.it puts me off wanting to hold her.i put in loads of different things to see if they would help making them go down a bit.does not seem to be working though.any ideas
Why has my hamster really big teeth???????????
my best idea is to get the wooden chew sticks, if she doesnt like them then cover them in some kinda of sent they like. like my hamster loves the yogurt treats that i buy fr her but she wont chew on the sticks, so what i do is i rube the treat onto it and she chews on the sticks all the time. hope this helps....
Reply:you could take it to a vet to get some suggestions
are you sure it's getting enough hard stuff to chew on?
Reply:Like what?? try chew sticks or cardboard i had the same problem with my hamster...but do something soon or her teeth might start to grow through her gums!!D:
Reply:Rodents natrually grind their teeth whenever they need to, but you should put pieces of wood in its cage to help the tooth-shrinking progress.
Reply:well try giving her something that she would really like...but it has to be hard and yes it can be human food...if they like it then she will chew it and bite it and make the teeth go down...if she does not eat it and she does not file her teeth...u might want to take a emory bord (a nail file) and just gently file it down...if she does not like it dont force it...give her another day or so to see if she will file them down herself...if not then u should take her to the vet and see what is wrong.
hope it helped.
Reply:rodents have teeth that naturally grow really long. In the wild, they gnaw on hard things such as roots and bark. put sticks, cardboard, and other hard but chewable substances. if this doesn't work u can clip them with nail clippers.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO CLIP THE TONGUE OR CHEEK!!
Reply:if she doesn't close her mouth all the way then you should bring her to the vets immediately or else it will start cutting through her gums and cause serious injury. make sure you give her hard things like wood blocks and carrots(washed well).
